Background & Purpose

Sometimes working with friends on a freelance basis is just not enough but you don’t want to set up a formal company with a structure and full-time employment. At Open Space we decided to work in the form of a collective that brings diverse people together. We are still freelancers but there is a theme that unites us (in our case it is the participatory methods and sustainability in Bulgaria). It allows us to run projects independently, and also join forces for common bigger projects. We have a formal company to deal with admin and finances.

Emotional Maps

Emotional Maps

Time frame: Punctual usage
Complexity: 3/5

Background & Purpose

We hold emotional mapping sessions in order to sense what is not being said and to provide space for people to express how they are doing. We do it periodically as a sort of soft track record. It helps us to make explicit any internal tacit conflicts but also some external pressures that can be a source for future innovations or just to better fit our environment.

Open Organisation, projects with password

Open Organisation, projects with password

Time frame:Punctual usage
Complexity: 3/5

Background & Purpose

Specially for organisations where raising capital investment is not a suitable way to evolve, being able to grow as a team is key for success. For this purpose we decided to find a way to lower the entrance barrier, a sort of ‘no email required log in’ for joining the collective.

Liquid Participation

Liquid Participation

Time frame:Ongoing usage

Complexity: 4/5

Background & Purpose

How do we make sure things get done when tasks are self-assigned, working in teams with flat structure combined with fixed deadlines? What’s beyond the carrot/stick extrinsic motivator to get things done? We created and remind ourselves of this practice in times of high workload, uneven feelings of commitment among the team or when a conflict arises.
